CHICAGO, Nov. 6, 2009 (Reuters) The Minnesota Twins acquired All-Star shortstop J.J. Hardy from the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday in exchange for outfielder Carlos Gomez.
Hardy's move follows a disappointing season in which Hardy bat a career-low .229 with 11 home runs and 47 RBI.
The Twins, however, are counting on the 27-year-old returning to the form he displayed during the 2007 and 2008 seasons when he slammed 20-plus homers and 70-plus RBIs for the Brewers.
Gomez was another player looking for a fresh start after a subpar 2009 campaign in which the speedy outfielder batted .229 with just three home runs and 28 RBIs.
